“May mga floater nets na 3 to 5 years na sigurong nakalatag sa mga corals at yung iba almost 10 years na kaya tinubuan na ng corals”, stated by Dr. Pajaro of Daluhay when asked about the period of time that the floater nets wrapped in the corals. “Mas makakahinga na yung mga corals ngayon”, she added.
Almost 90% of floater nets were removed and raised through the collaborative efforts of MENRO Jestonee Bitong, Reymar Tercero of OPAg, Teodoro Torio of ENRO, Dr. Marivic Pajaro of Daluhay, Daniel Flores of BFAR-III, For. Mary Jane Aragon of ASCOT, Dominador Mahinay, Jesus Cesar, and a total of 20 concerned individuals from the fisherfolks, MENRO personnel and BLGU’s of Brgy. Ditinagyan who participated in the said activity.
The aforesaid activity is the continuation of the recent underwater clean-up (August 27, 2020) in support to the establishment of Marine Protected Area / Fish Sanctuary wherein an approximately 250 kg of floater nets were removed.
