In the advent of climate change threats, the Local Government Unit of Casiguran, Aurora under the leadership of Dr. Ricardo A. Bitong through the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) together with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) conducted a participatory process relative to Updating of Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) last November 04, 2020.
The importance of managing the forests and forestlands became paramount and the needs on updating our existing FLUP was necessary to put the resources into effective management and optimum use for the economic and environmental advancements, and for the benefit of constituents and Municipality as a whole.
The aforesaid activity was conducted via Zoom Meeting in compliance to the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) Guidelines and made successful through the collaborative efforts of each individual who partakes in the participatory process.
The Zoom Meeting mainly focused on the presentation of FLUP and gathering of valuable comments, suggestions, feedbacks, and concerns from the participants that may result socially acceptable, and ecologically feasible plan.
“Mahalaga ang FLUP sa panahon ngayon, hindi lang dapat pangalagaan ang natural resources kundi ito rin po yung magpoprotekta sa atin sa mga kalamidad. Kung hindi po natin pangangalagaan ang ating kagubatan ay tayo rin po ang mapipinsala nito”, stated by Dr. Bitong as he stressed the FLUP as the momentous approach in protecting the natural resources and the community.
The active participation of the Sangguniang Bayan-Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, Head of Municipal Offices (MLGOO, MBO, MDRRMO, MTICAO, MPDC, MAO, AND Assessor’s Office), Regional and Provincial Offices (DENR-III, ENRO, PPDO, PENRO), NGA’s, APECO, NCIP, CSO’s, Fisherfolks, and representatives from 24 Barangays of Casiguran plays a vital role in the success of the participatory process and the outcome leads on proceeding to the next step which are drafting, legitimization and approval of FLUP.
